During my time at the Institute of Technology Tralee I worked on a number of courses that will online for the 2013-2014 semester. I worked with lecturers from a number of differing backgrounds.
The process for creating a typical unit in a module went as follows:
1. An initial review would be held to go over material with the lecturers on a specific unit of a module we were working on that week
2. The meeting would consist of myself (instructional designer), the lecturer (SME), a social science lecturer that works in online teaching and a librarian of the institute that also works in e-learning support
3. I then gathered material such as images, videos and ideas for the unit I was working on
4. We would then hold an educational review where we would finalize what to put in and leave out of the unit
5. I would then record audio with the SME for each slide
6. I would then create the unit in the template, inserting the images, videos, attachments, links, Engage interactions, quizzes etc, publish the unit in Articulate and upload it onto the relevant course in blackboard
Some of the tools used:
Articulate: The units were all built within Articulate
Engage interactions: Many different types of engage interactions were used throughout the units, including pyramids, tabs, circled diagram, timeline, media tour. It was also used to make a number of quizzes
Camtasia: Camtasia was used to create montages of images relating to the topic. It was also used to create screen captures to be used as videos
Audacity: This tool was used to record and edit audio with SMEs
Raptivity: This was used to create interactions for the user
YouTube: Videos from Youtube were imported into the units and would begin so they would start at a certain time of the video
